Serie A | Lazio 3-1 Frosinone: Olimpico turnaround

Lazio 3-1 Frosinone

Lazio completed an extraordinary turnaround from the Matias Soule penalty to beat Frosinone with Taty Castellanos, Gustav Isaksen and Patric.

Lazio 3-1 Frosinone

The Aquile were forced to do without injured Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto, who are both out for at least a couple of weeks, Alessio Romagnoli and suspended Manuel Lazzari. Nicolò Casale was also struggling with flu symptoms, leaving the squad down to the bare bones. The Canarini had Caleb Okoli back from suspension, but still missing Pol Lirola, Riccardo Marchizza, Sergio Kalaj, Arijon Ibrahimovic, Jaime Baez and Anthony Oyono.

Abdou Harroui managed to pull the ball across the face of goal only for none of his Frosinone teammates to meet it for a tap-in.

Francesco Gelli prevented Felipe Anderson nodding in a Mattia Zaccagni cross at the back post, then Zaccagni tried to score directly from a tight free kick, forcing Stefano Turati to palm it out from under the bar.

Straight after the restart, Luca Pellegrini unleashed a screamer from 25 metres out that flashed inches past the far post.

However, the same player then limped off with a muscular problem. It got worse for Lazio, as a cross was floated into the box and Matteo Guendouzi got his movement all wrong, punching the ball away for an inevitable penalty. Matias Soule sent Ivan Provedel the wrong way to convert and give Frosinone the lead.

Taty Castellanos threw himself at a Guendouzi cross and just failed to connect, while Kaio Jorge’s free kick pierced the defensive wall to skim the woodwork.

However, Lazio equalised with a sensational header from Castellanos on the Isaksen cross that looped past everyone into the far top corner.

Moments later, Castellanos intercepted a wayward Luca Garritano pass in the final third and immediately sent Isaksen through, keeping his cool to bend the left-foot finish into the far bottom corner through Okoli’s legs.

Castellanos had the ball in the net at the 80th minute, but was offside, as Isaksen really should’ve gone for goal himself rather than attempt the assist.

The third goal did arrive eventually, a corner flicked on for Patric to fire in at the back post relatively undisturbed. It was his fourth goal in the Lazio jersey.

Deep into stoppages, Isaksen almost made it 4-1, a cushioned volley onto the crossbar from a tight angle on Pedro’s cross, then Turati made a reaction save on Castellanos at the far post.
