Saudi Pro League powerhouse Al-Hilal has officially secured the world record for the most consecutive victories by a top-flight soccer team.
This groundbreaking feat was realized with a compelling 2-0 triumph over Al-Ittihad in the Asian Champions League on Tuesday, marking Al-Hilal’s 28th consecutive win.
Renowned as Saudi Arabia’s most decorated team, Al-Hilal’s remarkable accomplishment surpasses the previous record of 27 consecutive wins set by Welsh side The New Saints in 2016.
Al-Hilal’s impeccable winning streak commenced after a 1-1 draw with Damac on September 21, with each subsequent match resulting in triumph for the team.
Notable players such as former Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic, ex-Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, and the illustrious Brazil forward Neymar, who transferred from Paris St-Germain last summer in a deal valued at approximately 90 million euros ($99.2 million) plus add-ons, contribute to the team’s success. However, Neymar has been sidelined since October due to a severe knee injury.
Under the astute management of former Benfica and Flamengo boss Jorge Jesus, Al-Hilal currently maintains a commanding 12-point lead over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr at the summit of the Saudi Pro League.
