However, Napoli’s pursuit of Lukaku has been largely driven by their manager, Antonio Conte, under whom Lukaku thrived during his two prolific seasons at Inter Milan from 2019 to 2021.
Romelu Lukaku rejoined Chelsea in 2021 for a hefty £97.5 million, but his return to Stamford Bridge did not go as planned. Over the past two seasons, he has spent time on loan in Italy, first back at Inter Milan and then with Roma. Lukaku has not featured for the Blues since May 2022, and with Chelsea’s senior squad now exceeding 40 players after 11 new signings this summer, the club is eager to offload him.
