Liverpool Starting 11: Projected Lineup for 2024/25 Season

Liverpool Starting 11

Liverpool have yet to make a signing this summer, with key stars facing uncertain futures. Arne Slot oversees his first pre-season as Liverpool head coach, and the Dutchman must make some enormous decisions ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Concerns and Preparations

The transfer activity across Europe has yet to make a stop at Anfield. This has caused concern among Liverpool supporters as the Premier League season approaches. With Jurgen Klopp no longer leading the Reds, trepidation already exists on Merseyside. However, Liverpool invested in rebuilding their midfield last summer and already boast an incredibly talented squad, featuring impressive young talents emerging from the academy. Even one new signing could raise hopes around Anfield, but the Reds likely won’t add to their roster this summer.

Goalkeeper and Defense

Liverpool starting 11 for the 2024/25 season appears set following a quiet transfer window. Alisson remains the undisputed choice in goal. Although Adrian has left and Caoimhin Kelleher might follow, Slot cannot allow Alisson to depart at the beginning of a new era.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future had some uncertainty due to interest from Real Madrid, and his contract expires in 2025. Slot will desperately want to retain the creative right-back, given his unmatched output in the opposition half.

Ibrahima Konate, who lost his spot to Jarell Quansah last season, is expected to reclaim his position. Despite his recent injuries, Konate’s pace and athleticism suit Liverpool’s high-pressing game under Slot. Virgil van Dijk’s future remains uncertain, especially after his comments at the end of Euro 2024. However, his contract runs until 2025, and he will likely stay for another year. Van Dijk will be essential as a bridge between Slot and the rest of the squad, given his undeniable quality.

Andy Robertson struggled during the 2023/24 season but remains capable of delivering solid performances on the left flank. Although there are suggestions that Liverpool may need to find a replacement, the 30-year-old Robertson still holds his position in the starting 11.

Midfield and Attack

In midfield, Dominik Szoboszlai started strong last season but lost form in the latter half. Slot will aim to rejuvenate the Hungarian star, who may enjoy more freedom in the final third. Ederson, from Atalanta, is a potential addition, with Liverpool keen to strengthen their defensive midfield position. Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool’s standout player last season, will continue to be a key figure in the midfield, though Slot must manage his defensive responsibilities.

Mohamed Salah remains integral to Liverpool’s starting 11. The Egyptian king, whose contract runs out next summer, is expected to lead in goals and assists. Darwin Nunez faces a pivotal season. After two inconsistent years, Slot’s preference for an orthodox number nine could help unlock Nunez’s potential, similar to how he developed Santiago Gimenez at Feyenoord.

Cody Gakpo, following an exceptional Euro 2024, has proven his best position is on the left flank. With Luis Diaz’s inconsistency and Diogo Jota likely to rotate with Nunez, Gakpo is expected to secure a starting spot on the left side.

In conclusion, Liverpool starting 11 for the 2024/25 season may not see many new faces, but the squad’s existing talent under Arne Slot’s guidance holds significant promise for the campaign ahead.
