Lisandro Martinez to miss two Months with knee ligament injury

Lisandro Martinez

The Manchester United star faces an extended two-month absence from play due to damaged knee ligaments sustained during the recent victory over West Ham, with no surgery required

Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez is set to be sidelined for up to two more months after sustaining damage to his knee ligaments during Sunday’s 3-0 victory over West Ham at Old Trafford. The injury occurred in the 66th minute when his right knee buckled under the weight of Vladimír Coufal during a tangle on the field.

Despite attempting to continue playing for a few minutes, Martinez ultimately had to withdraw from the match, being promptly replaced by Raphael Varane.Subsequent scans on Monday revealed damage to the collateral ligament in the knee, excluding any harm to the cruciate ligament.

Fortunately, no surgical intervention is necessary, but recovery is expected to take between one-and-a-half to two months.

This setback extends Martinez’s challenging season marked by injuries, limiting his appearances to just 10 since August.

The 26-year-old had recently returned to the pitch, with Sunday’s game being only his fourth appearance and third start after a four-month lay-off due to a second operation on a broken foot sustained in a Europa League tie against Sevilla last April.
