‘I don’t care’

Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag has said he’s not concerned by reports suggesting Manchester United are considering a move to appoint Gareth Southgate.

The England boss will be considered as a replacement for Ten Hag should he be sacked by the Old Trafford hierarchy, talkSPORT understands.

While Southgate has played down the prospect of a move, Ten Hag is still feeling the heat as a result of a disappointing campaign so far.

Despite reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Man United have already been eliminated from the Champions League and currently sit sixth in the Premier League table.

As it stands, they would need to overturn a nine-point deficit if they were to squeeze into the Premier League’s top four.

Such a disappointing campaign has led to criticism of Ten Hag, but according to the Dutchman there’s little need to pay attention to outside media noise.

Speaking to the media, Ten Hag said: “You know when you are working at Manchester United that there will always be noise and rumours around the club, the team, the manager, the players – whatever.

They’re always coming up with an issue. You like it to talk about and of course we have a different interest but we are not focusing on that.

“We are focusing on the process. We are focusing on getting the team to play better and improving the way we play so yeah, I don’t care about it.”

Asked about the pressure he’s under at Old Trafford, Ten Hag said: “I was trained at Ajax and it was similar.
