Harry Kane transfer to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 continues to spark debate, especially among English football legends like Paul Gascoigne. While many see Kane as a key player in Bayern’s quest to reclaim the Bundesliga title, others, like Gascoigne, question why he didn’t choose a club like Real Madrid.
Kane’s decision to leave Tottenham Hotspur was driven by his desire to finally win major titles, something that had eluded him throughout his career in North London. Bayern Munich, with their storied history and dominance in German football, seemed like the perfect fit. However, in a surprising twist, the Bavarian giants ended the season without any silverware.
Gascoigne, a former England star, has been vocal about his disappointment in Kane’s choice. “I just don’t understand why he chose Bayern Munich instead of Real Madrid,” Gascoigne told ‘Goal.’ “In Madrid, you don’t just play and train: you have the sun, you have fun, and Madrid is a fantastic city.”
Reflecting on Kane’s performance in the last European Championship, Gascoigne added, “His performance was disappointing. But overall, I think he regrets making that decision. Germany probably isn’t the best place for him.”
Gascoigne also drew comparisons to other English players who have thrived at Real Madrid, including Steve McManaman, Michael Owen, and more recently, Jude Bellingham. “If you look at other England players who went to Real Madrid, you wonder why Harry Kane didn’t follow in their footsteps.”
