Greenwood Set for Marseille Move as Man Utd Agree to Sell

Mason Greenwood

Manchester United have finally decided to sell Mason Greenwood to Olympique Marseille. Notably, Fabrizio Romano, a well-known football transfer expert, revealed this news on Tuesday night.

Previously, Greenwood spent last season on loan at Getafe. During his time there, he performed impressively in LaLiga, scoring eight goals and providing six assists. However, upon his return to United’s Carrington training centre, club officials promptly informed him that he was for sale.

In response, Marseille has acted swiftly to acquire Greenwood. Consequently, they’ve offered him a long-term contract lasting until June 2029. This extended deal clearly demonstrates Marseille’s confidence in the 22-year-old’s abilities.

Additionally, Manchester United has negotiated a significant sell-on clause in the transfer agreement. Specifically, Romano stated, “Man United will have a sell-on clause close to 50% of any future sale from June 2025 to June 2029.” As a result, this clause could significantly benefit United if Greenwood’s value increases in the future.

While the clubs have agreed on the transfer, some details still remain unresolved. In fact, Romano added, “Done deal between clubs, salary details, including bonuses being discussed.” Therefore, these final talks suggest both sides are eager to complete the transfer smoothly.

Undoubtedly, this move gives Greenwood a fresh start in one of Europe’s top leagues. Meanwhile, for Manchester United, it closes a complex chapter and allows them to focus on their future squad planning.

Now, football fans eagerly await the official announcement. Furthermore, many will watch closely to see how Greenwood adapts to Ligue 1. Ultimately, his performance at Marseille could determine whether he fulfills his early promise as one of England’s most talented young players.
