Novak Djokovic

Celebrating his 37th birthday in style, Novak Djokovic clinched a victory against Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann amidst intermittent rain, propelling him into the quarter-finals of the Geneva Open.

Djokovic, a formidable presence in tennis with 24 Grand Slam titles under his belt, made his debut appearance in the ATP 250 tournament in Switzerland, strategically positioning himself for the upcoming French Open.

He asserted his dominance with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 win, joining the esteemed ranks of Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer as only the third player to achieve 1,100 wins on the ATP Tour.

Acknowledging the significance of the moment, the crowd serenaded Djokovic with a rendition of “happy birthday”, and tournament officials presented him with a celebratory chocolate cake.

Reflecting on the match, Djokovic expressed gratitude towards his supporters, emphasizing the meaningfulness of the birthday tribute. “My birthday wouldn’t have been the same if I had not won the match.”

“I’m very grateful for all the people that came out to support me and thank you for the birthday song, that was very special for me.”
