Christopher Nkunku has shared an optimistic update on his recovery, aiming for a strong comeback with Chelsea in the upcoming Premier League season. The forward, who transferred from RB Leipzig last summer, faced a challenging debut season, making only 14 appearances due to persistent knee and hamstring injuries.

Nkunku’s Debut Season Struggles

During his first season at Stamford Bridge, Nkunku managed to score three goals. However, his contributions were significantly limited by injuries. Reflecting on his debut season, Nkunku acknowledged the challenges but expressed his determination to bounce back. “I am feeling better after the difficult season last year,” he shared on the club’s website.

Determined Recovery and Pre-season Preparation

Nkunku emphasized his commitment to regaining full fitness and making a fresh start. “I had a nice break during the summer. I needed it. I worked a little bit before coming here [pre-season], but it was important for me to break after this year, for my head also. It was good,” Nkunku said. He highlighted the importance of pre-season training in getting ready for the new campaign. “Now I am working in every training session to stay fit and to go forward in a good way. Pre-season is very good and the team is good.”

Embracing New Coaching Strategies

Under the guidance of Chelsea’s new head coach, Nkunku is optimistic about the team’s prospects. “The new head coach brings very good ideas to play. We are all happy to practice every training with him. Now it is just the beginning. We need to learn and to fix in every training the way he wants us to play,” Nkunku explained. He believes that if the team fully embraces the coach’s vision, they will produce excellent football this season.

Looking Forward to Pre-season Friendlies and the New Season

Nkunku is eager for Chelsea’s pre-season friendlies in the United States, where the Blues will play six fixtures. These games are crucial for building fitness and team cohesion. “It’s also important to have some friendly games, to have more minutes in the body to be fresh for the start of the season, and to see our fans. I am looking forward to it,” Nkunku stated.

Chelsea’s 2024/25 campaign will kick off on 18th August with a match against reigning champions Manchester City. Christopher Nkunku is determined to impress in the new season and help Chelsea achieve success.
