Leeds 0-3 Middlesbrough

Anfernee Dijksteel, Delano Burgzorg and Josh Coburn fired Middlesbrough to a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Leeds at Elland Road.

Michael Carrick’s side scored three times in 18 second-half minutes to reach the second round at the expense of their Championship rivals.

Plymouth 3-0 Cheltenham

Wayne Rooney enjoyed his first win as Plymouth manager with a 3-0 victory over Cheltenham in the Carabao Cup.

Rooney’s side bounced back from a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the Championship season thanks to three second-half goals at Home Park.

Ben Waine was left with the simplest of tap-ins when Adam Randell’s 62nd-minute free-kick came back off the bar and late goals from Ryan Hardie and Mustapha Bundu sealed a comfortable win.

Hull 1-2 Sheff Wed

Charlie McNeill scored twice on his debut to fire Sheffield Wednesday into the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 win at Hull.

McNeill, who last month joined the Owls from Manchester United, opened the scoring after just 25 seconds when Liam Millar gave the ball away on the left.

Pol Valentin and Michael Smith smartly linked up before McNeill struck into the top-left corner.

Hull equalised after nine minutes when Valentin lost his footing from a long ball. Marvin Mehlem reacted quickly and coolly finished.

But much-changed Wednesday regained the upper hand 60 seconds later when goalkeeper Anthony Racioppi lost possession on the edge of his penalty area. McNeill seized upon the error and could not miss.
