Boca Juniors celebrated against River Plate 3-2 in quarterfinals of League Cup

Cavani
Estadio Monumental (Buenos Aires)

A Boca strong spirit and with a lot of football resources overcame an early disadvantage, reversed the score, ended up winning 3-2 in Córdoba in a new edition of the Argentine superclasico and thus advanced to the semifinals of the League Cup. The opponent in that instance will be Estudiantes. Previously, this Thursday, the Xeneizes will visit Fortaleza in Brazil for the Sudamericana.

After Miguel Borja put River ahead, Boca took possession of the ball and began to prowl the opponent’s area. The insistent search was rewarded at the end of the first period, when Miguel Merentiel connected with a cross from Luis Advíncula to achieve the partial equalizer.

Already in the second period, Edinson Cavani with a header – after a cross from Kevin Zenón – and again Merentiel, after a quick reply that he himself had initiated, placed a 3-1 that sealed history. Paulo Diaz’s stoppage-time stoppage time only decorated the figures.

A crowd celebrated the victory of Boquense at the Mario Kempes Stadium, the third in a row this year against the so-called greats. The previous ones had been 4-2 to Racing and 2-1 to San Lorenzo.
