Arsenal could win their first Premier League title in over 20 years this season. Manager Mikel Arteta believes the squad has made significant progress towards achieving this goal. The Gunners kick off their 2024/25 Premier League campaign on Saturday, hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers. They are determined to end their long wait for the league title and dethrone reigning champions Manchester City.
Arteta is confident in his team’s capabilities and emphasizes the hard work they have put in during the summer. “We are willing to excel and bring major trophies, but it’s also about the journey and our focus on the starting point,” Arteta told Sky Sports. “I believe we had a good pre-season, made significant progress, and we’re ready to go.”
Improving on last season’s results will be challenging, according to Arteta. “Winning the Premier League requires a high level, and every year gets tougher. We need to improve, find margins in unexplored areas, and set new standards to give ourselves a strong chance,” he said.
Arteta also highlighted the importance of continuous improvement. “There are always areas of the team that can be enhanced. We need to assess the team’s needs and address any deficiencies.”
This summer, Arsenal signed Italian centre-back Riccardo Calafiori and completed the permanent transfer of goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford. However, they have yet to secure new attacking talent, and they continue to be linked with a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.
