Mikel Arteta is expected to sign a new long-term contract with Arsenal, according to talkSPORT.

Arteta, who took charge of Arsenal in December 2019, is in the final year of his current deal. Arsenal is confident that Arteta will extend his stay at the Emirates.

In May, talkSPORT reported that Arsenal planned to offer Arteta a significant pay rise, making him their highest-paid manager ever. With the 2024/25 season underway, some Arsenal fans worry that Arteta might leave next year. However, the club believes it is just a matter of when, not if, he agrees to new terms.

Both Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are relaxed about the situation, indicating there’s no rush to finalize the contract. Arteta has consistently expressed his commitment to the club and his desire to lead Arsenal to their first Premier League title since the Invincibles of 2004.

In a recent update, Arteta said, “There is no update [on his contract] at the moment. The thing that hasn’t changed is how happy I am and how valued I feel here and how much I love representing this club.”

He added, “Things happen in a natural way, and our relationship is that good that I don’t predict any issues. But things have to develop in the right way and it will happen.”

Previously, Arteta mentioned, “We have a great relationship with everybody at the football club. I’m really happy where I am, and things will take care of themselves.”

Under Arteta’s management, Arsenal won the FA Cup in his first season and achieved consecutive second-place finishes in the league. Last season, Arsenal secured 89 points, their second-highest total, won a record 28 games, and scored a record 91 goals.

Arteta is now preparing his team for their upcoming match against Aston Villa, where they lost 1-0 last season.

Arsenal may also sign a new player soon. They are in advanced talks to acquire Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino, who is set to return to England after a stint at Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Hale End graduates Eddie Nketiah and Charlie Patino are likely to leave for Nottingham Forest and Deportivo de La Coruna, respectively.
