Barcelona is in contact with N’Golo Kante as they consider adding a senior midfielder before the transfer window closes. Kante, who left Europe last summer after his Chelsea contract expired, joined Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League. His final seasons in London were plagued by injuries.

Despite those struggles, the 33-year-old regained fitness in Saudi Arabia. He played a significant role for France at Euro 2024, marking a surprising return after a two-year hiatus from international football.

Barcelona had linked with N’Golo Kante before his move to Al Ittihad. According to SPORT, they may now make a fresh approach. The Catalan giants have reportedly contacted Kante’s representatives to explore bringing him back to Europe. Kante’s desire to leave Saudi Arabia could be crucial in this potential transfer.

Barca’s sporting director, Deco, holds a particular interest in Kante, though the club has prioritized signing a left winger all summer, with Nico Williams being a key target. However, head coach Hansi Flick emphasizes the need for quality in attacking areas, especially since Barcelona relies heavily on midfielders Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Gavi, who are currently recovering from injuries. This situation has led the club to reconsider bolstering their midfield options.

Barcelona’s recent struggles against Monaco in the Joan Gamper Trophy highlighted the need for a strong midfielder like Kante. With 17-year-old Marc Bernal expected to start the season opener against Valencia, the club’s hierarchy must decide quickly on Kante.

Barcelona currently lacks a ball-winning midfielder. Kante could fill that role seamlessly. Deco previously targeted Amadou Onana, who joined Aston Villa, and Martin Zubimendi, who chose to stay with Real Sociedad. Kante’s experience and skills make him an attractive option.

However, Barcelona may face competition from West Ham United and Atletico Madrid, both of which have shown interest in signing Kante. We’ll see where Kante will end up.
