Manchester United have officially announced the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.

United targeted two new defenders this summer. After securing Leny Yoro from Lille, they quickly set their sights on De Ligt. When the Dutch centre-back became available for transfer, he promptly agreed to personal terms with United. Although United initially saw their bid rejected, they ultimately finalized the deal for €45m (£38.6m), plus an additional €5m (£4.3m) in potential add-ons.

“I felt excited about the opportunity for a new challenge at such a historic club as soon as I heard Manchester United wanted me,” Matthijs De Ligt said. “The football leadership impressed me with their vision and the role they see for me. Erik ten Hag, who shaped the early stages of my career, knows how to get the best out of me, and I’m eager to work with him again. I’m determined to continue my success at this special club.”

Following De Ligt’s announcement, United confirmed Mazraoui’s transfer. The right-back joined United in a £13m deal that could reach £14m. He replaces Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the squad.

“It’s an incredible feeling to be a Manchester United player,” Mazraoui said. “I can’t wait to step out at Old Trafford in the red shirt. I’m joining at an exciting time, and everyone I’ve spoken to shares the ambition to win trophies. Reuniting with Erik ten Hag as I enter the prime years of my career excites me. I know his expectations and will give everything to help the team succeed.”
