Dani Olmo Transfer Update Barcelona Secures Deal for RB Leipzig Star

Dani Olmo

Barcelona has successfully reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Dani Olmo, according to Fabrizio Romano. After missing out on top target Nico Williams, Barcelona swiftly shifted their focus to Olmo, a former La Masia graduate who has long been on their radar.

Dani Olmo’s performances during Euro 2024 significantly raised his profile. Specifically, he made a notable impact after replacing the injured Pedri, which further fueled interest in his future. Although his €60 million release clause expired on July 20, RB Leipzig was willing to facilitate his departure if he expressed a desire to leave.

Leipzig’s willingness to negotiate was enhanced by their successful re-signing of Xavi Simons, providing them with flexibility in the market. This set the stage for Barcelona to pursue Dani Olmo with renewed determination.

However, Barcelona faced challenges in their pursuit of Olmo. Initially, Leipzig rejected their opening bid, prompting Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, to take decisive action. Therefore, Deco personally traveled to Germany, demonstrating the club’s serious intent. His efforts led to a prolonged meeting where both clubs ultimately agreed on the transfer terms.

Barcelona will pay €55 million upfront for Dani Olmo, with an additional €7 million in potential add-ons, making the total deal worth €62 million. This agreement closely aligns with Olmo’s previous release clause, highlighting Leipzig’s firm negotiating stance.

For Dani Olmo, this transfer marks a significant return to Barcelona. Having left the club’s academy years ago due to limited first-team opportunities, Olmo has long harbored ambitions of rejoining. His new six-year contract, extending to 2030, reflects his long-term commitment to the club.

Barcelona’s acquisition of Dani Olmo is a strategic move that reunites the club with a talented midfielder and enhances their squad for the upcoming season. As Olmo prepares to don the Barcelona shirt again, fans eagerly anticipate his impact on the team.
