Kyogo Furuhashi nearly opened the scoring before Hatate netted the first goal. A defensive error by Kilmarnock allowed Greg Taylor to assist Hatate, who fired a shot past goalkeeper Robby McCrorie. Kilmarnock’s best chance came when Kyle Vassell outmuscled Cameron Carter-Vickers, but Matty Kennedy’s shot went straight to Kasper Schmeichel.
Scales doubled Celtic’s lead just before halftime by heading in a cross from Matt O’Riley. Kuhn scored the third goal with a deflected shot after a pass from Kyogo. Despite several opportunities, Celtic’s fourth goal came from Ralston, who scored after Kyogo’s attempt was saved.
Celtic’s performance demonstrated their dominance in domestic competition, with Kuhn’s preseason form suggesting a significant impact this season. If they retain key players like O’Riley and keep Hatate injury-free, Celtic will be hard to beat.
Kilmarnock, still adjusting to new signings and focusing on their upcoming European game, struggled against Celtic’s pace. However, they showed potential with attacking threats from Vassell and Kennedy, and McCrorie’s goalkeeping under pressure.
Rodgers expressed his satisfaction with the dominant display, while Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes felt the 4-0 scoreline was harsh but acknowledged the timing favored Celtic. McInnes hopes for better preparation and more player availability for future encounters.
