Aussie female boxer Caitlin Parker makes history as she beats male born Khadija Mardi

Caitlin Parker has secured Australia’s first Olympic medal in women’s boxing following a commanding quarter-final victory.

Despite a 4-1 split decision, the 75kg contender was the clear winner against Morocco’s Khadija Mardi in Paris on Sunday.

Since there are no bronze medal matches at the Olympics, Parker is guaranteed a medal even if she loses her semi-final against China’s Li Qian at Roland Garros next Thursday.

Only six Australians have previously won Olympic boxing medals, with Harry Garside breaking a 33-year drought in Tokyo three years ago.

Although none of these medals have been gold, Australia now has two strong contenders with Charlie Senior (57kg) advancing to the semi-finals on Saturday.
