Man United injury crisis as Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund are sidelined. Yoro will miss three months, while Hojlund is out for six weeks.

The injury woes worsened after Marcus Rashford and Antony also sustained injuries during the 3-2 friendly win against Real Betis.

Yoro and Hojlund’s Injuries

£52 million signing Yoro suffered a foot injury during the 2-1 pre-season defeat to Arsenal. He was seen leaving the US training base on crutches. The defender has broken his metatarsal and will be out until late October at the earliest. Despite his desire to stay with the team for the remainder of the tour, Yoro has returned to the UK for further tests.

Hojlund, who cost £64 million last summer, now faces six weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury from the Arsenal match.

Additional Concerns for Ten Hag

United’s injury problems extend to Rashford, who was forced off in the Betis game. He had scored the opening goal before a heavy challenge from Sergi Altimira took him out of the match.

Antony, who came on as a substitute, was also injured. He lasted just 25 minutes before joining Rashford in the treatment room.

Impact on the Season

These injuries come at a challenging time for Erik ten Hag, who will be without £116 million worth of talent for the start of the 2024/25 season. Yoro and Hojlund’s absences are a significant blow as Ten Hag gears up for the new campaign.

Yoro, the fifth most expensive teenager ever, had made 60 appearances for Lille before joining United. His injury is a setback for a squad already facing challenges.

United’s pre-season has been a mixed bag with two defeats and two victories. They lost 1-0 to Rosenborg but won 2-0 against Rangers. The loss to Arsenal added to their troubles.

Liverpool will be their final pre-season opponent in the US. The Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10 is just a week before their Premier League opener against Fulham on August 16.

Ten Hag is set to begin his third season at Old Trafford. The Dutchman has extended his contract until 2026 and aims to build on their FA Cup success and challenge for a top-four finish after last season’s eighth-place finish.
