Chelsea Signs Atlanta United Left-Back Caleb Wiley for £8.5m

Chelsea has finalized a deal to acquire Atlanta United’s left-back, Caleb Wiley, as reported recently. Negotiations between the clubs began earlier this month, with Wiley initially expected to join Chelsea’s sister club, Strasbourg. However, it’s now confirmed that Wiley will officially sign with Chelsea for a fee of £8.5m ($10.9m) and then be loaned to Strasbourg for the next season.

Chelsea’s Transfer Activity: Wiley to Move to Strasbourg on Loan

Oscar Perea’s agent, who also facilitated Perea’s move to Strasbourg, revealed he negotiated directly with Chelsea officials. This highlights the collaboration between the clubs under BlueCo 22 ownership. BlueCo 22 has focused on signing young talents for Chelsea and Strasbourg this summer.

The 19-year-old Wiley, with two caps for the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT), will represent the United States at the Paris Olympics after missing out on the Copa America squad.

Chelsea’s Busy Transfer Window and Future Plans

Suppose Wiley’s transfer to Chelsea is completed. In that case, he will become the sixth new signing for the Blues this summer, joining Tosin Adarabioyo, Estevao Willian, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Additionally, Chelsea is nearing a deal for versatile Basel star Renato Veiga. The 20-year-old began his medical with Chelsea on Monday for a proposed €14m (£11.8m) move and is expected to be confirmed as a new signing later this week.

Chelsea’s recruitment efforts don’t end there, as 19-year-old Boca Juniors center-back Aaron Anselmino is also set to join the club. While he is expected to stay with Boca for the next 12 months, reports suggest he might be loaned to Strasbourg in January 2025.

These strategic acquisitions highlight Chelsea’s aim to bolster its squad with promising young talents, gearing up for future domestic and international success.
